With OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, you can follow these steps to change the Accent Color for the entire Android OS.
I am a huge fan of OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. There are some bits of the system that I wish they hadn’t changed (like the Power Menu), but I like the software for the most part. It reminds me a lot of Motorola’s take on Android since it’s mostly stock, but with a few unique and useful features added here and there. One of these features is the ability to change the Accent Color for the phone.
At first, this feature will be grayed out but once you change the Theme from within OxygenOS, then you can customize the Accent Color to whatever you like.
Now, I’ve talked about changing the theme in the past, but at the time there was only one other theme to choose from (a dark theme). Since then, they’ve added a light theme and that complements the software very well. So once you pick between the dark or light theme, you can then follow these steps to customize the Accent Color on your phone.
OnePlus 3 Accent Colors
- Launch the Settings application
- Tap on the Display option
- Make sure you have a dark or light theme set (if you haven’t already)
- Then tap on the Accent Color option
- Choose between one of the eight options
- And then tap the OK button to change it to that color
Explanation
I’m not sure why OnePlus limits the use of the Accent Color to only when you’re using a light or dark theme. The option is simply grayed out if you’re set to the default theme and I just don’t get the reasoning behind it (although I’m sure there is some there). So before you can begin, you’ll need to launch the Settings application, tap on the Display option and then tap on the Theme option.
From here, you will either need to choose between the Dark theme or the Light theme. I prefer the dark theme personally, because it saves battery life, but whichever one you prefer the most is the one you should go with (battery usage on the light theme shouldn’t be that drastic unless you sit in the Settings application for hours on end). One that is done, you can go back to the Display section of the Settings application and then the Accent Color option is available.
So go ahead and tap on the Accent Color option and you’ll see the color options appear like in the image above. There are 8 to choose from here and once you tap on the one you like, you will want to tap on the OK button to actually change the Accent Color. I really wish OnePlus would have given us more options to choose from, or even just included a color wheel so we could pick the exact color we wanted.
Like before, I’m not sure exactly why OnePlus limited the user in the way, but there has to be a reason. I encourage you to try out all 8 of these colors just so you can see how they look. You can then pick out the one you like the most and keep it. You always have the ability to come back here to change the OnePlus 3 Accent Color so feel free to experiment with this feature. If you ever want it to be changed to how it was at the start, you can tap the Default button and it will be like before.
Let me know which theme/accent color combination you enjoy the most, and feel free to include an IMGUR link in the comments to show it off.
