The number of active Apple devices has reached two billion globally, another major milestone for the company. Among them are iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, Watches, and other Apple products. The milestone reflects the company’s growth in recent years in terms of the number of products sold.

The Cupertino-headquartered company reached a milestone of 1 billion active devices in 2016, a milestone it took the company a long time to reach. It takes the company four years to reach the milestone of 1.5 billion active devices globally after adding another 500 million active devices.

As Apple moves quickly towards hitting the milestone of 2 billion active devices globally due to increased sales, it adds more devices rapidly. In spite of the Covid-19 restrictions, the company sold a record number of devices in 2021, reaching 1.8 active devices.

The company reached a milestone of 2 billion active devices by adding another 200 million. Apple made the announcement as part of it’s performance report for the first quarter of 2023. As per Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, “During the December quarter, we achieved a major milestone and are excited to report that we now have more than 2 billion active devices as part of our growing installed base.”

When comparing Apple devices (the ones running iOS, MacOS, and watchOS) with Google devices, Google announced in 2021 that it had 3 billion active Android devices. It is estimated that 3 billion devices have access to the Google Play store due to the fact that Google considers active devices as having access to the Google Play store. Since the Google Play store is not available in China, Android devices have much more than 3 billion devices if we count those being sold there.
