Apple is working on bringing all the chip production in-house for upcoming iPhones and iPads. In this way, they will get rid of all the third-party chip manufacturers. The in-house chips will also make all the apple products more optimized.

This year, Apple introduced its first ARM-based M1 chip for the MacBooks. This M1 chip is the in-house chip developed by the tech giant and for the first time, there are no intel chips in the MacBooks. And MacBook Air powered by this M1 chip outpowers Macbook Pro powered by the intel I9 chips in the benchmark results.

After mankind chips for the MacBooks, Apple starts working on producing cellular modems for iPhones and iPads. This will also help Apple to get rid of the Qualcomm components for future iPhones.

Johny Srouji who is Apple’s senior VP for hardware makes this announcement to the employees. He told employees that the company is ready for the second transition. He also said that

“This year, we kicked off the development of our first internal cellular modem which will enable another key strategic transition”.

It indicates that the tech giant is producing its own cellular modems for iPhones and iPads.

In 2019, the Cupertino headquartered company acquired the Intel Modem business. The acquisition cost was $1 billion which also includes 2200 employees, equipment, intellectual properties, and leases. As the production of these modems starts, there are no actual performance details yet. However, we expect improved battery life and call receptions. We have already seen an improved performance of M1 chips compared to the intel one.

Apple in-house modem availability:

The exact availability of the modem is not revealed by the company yet. And we are not sure when we will see these modems in Apple products. But according to some reports and rumors, iPad Pro 2021 will be the first one to arrive with Apple in-house modems. Apple will also quit Qualcomm 5G modem for the 2021 iPad Pro. Instead, it will use AiP (Antenna-in-Package) to add 5G mmWave compatibility in the iPad Pro.

The company VP for Hardware also said that

“Long-term strategic investments like these are a critical part of enabling our products and making sure we have a rich pipeline of innovative technologies for our future.”

These are the early reports and are extracted from the publications. We would suggest our readers wait for the official announcement from the company itself.
