Apple to be Sued Over Antitrust Practises Regarding AirTags

A report from Politico says that the lawyers at the Department of Justice are gearing up to sue Apple over it’s AirTags, and also the other hardware.

This comes after a year-long accusation from Tile – a device tracker – blaming Apple for blocking it from using it’s Find My network in iOS. This bars the Tile trackers from being more precise in their operations, whereas Apple’s own AirTags are allowed to do so.

Antitrust Lawsuit Against Apple Over AirTags

Apple is already strangled with several antitrust lawsuits due to it’s App Store policies. The company is being sued by several countries for it’s hefty tax on developers’ revenue and also for blocking them from using a third-party payment method for their apps.

While it’s being successfully thumped in some countries, like South Korea, the Cupertino-based company may soon come under fire for yet another of it’s products – AirTags. These little device trackers from Apple are so accurate in doing their jobs, with the help of ultra-wideband technology and Apple’s Find My network.

And this is exactly why others are accusing Apple! Tile – another device tracking maker, has accused Apple of blocking their access to the iOS Find My network for better tracking like their AirTags. This has been openly shared in testimony for Congress, where Tile said Apple asked them to share their software ecosystem before accessing their Find My network on iOS.

Since this is unreasonable, Tile declined the exchange. Following this complaint, the lawyers at the Department of Justice are reportedly gearing up to file an antitrust lawsuit against Applesays some sources to Politico.

Well, this is reported to be still in the nascent stages, so it may be scrapped altogether if needed. Apple has been facing an antitrust lawsuit over it’s App Store policies since 2019, and this new one would just make it harder for the company.
