Google has announced the winners of Choice Screen in EEA and UK for the last quarter of 2020. The names include Info.com, Bing, Yandex and GMX. Users setting up their new phones will have to choose either of those search engines along with Google, which will be set in randomized order. These engines will reign in Choice Screens starting October 1st to December 31st, 2020.
Google Announced Alongside Search Engines in EEA Plus UK
We’ve seen how Google cleverly introduced a way to coverup the fined it was slashed by EU regulators in 2018. The company was alleged in an antitrust lawsuit of affixing its native search engine as default in all phones produced in EU. While this attracted a fine of the record $5 billion, Google announced a new plan to tackle it.
The company has offered other search engines to take part in a bidding process, where the highest bidders can be listed in their new Choice Screen for the EEA plus UK markets starting 2020. Choice Screen is a pop-up asking user who set up their new phone, to set a default search engine. This would Install the respective browser app and set it to default in-home search bar.
While several search engine companies take part in the bid every quarter, Google has announced the winners of the upcoming quarter of 2020. The names include Microsoft’s Bing, Russian Yandex, GMX and Info.com. Users in EEA and UK regions have to select either of these engines along with Google’s search as their default search engine.
These bidders positions remain active from October 1st to December 31st this year. A notable moment happened here is the popular privacy browser, DuckDuckGo dropping 27 spots and giving up its position to Bing.
