To protect user privacy better, Brave came up with a new solution called “Forgetful Browsing” this week, that will automatically clear all the first-party data of a website after the browsing session.

Forgetful Browsing in Brave

Of all the privacy-centric features that new-age OEMs are making, Brave is leading the path with innovative stuff. The company has just announced a new privacy feature for it’s browser users called Forgetful Browsingwhich will clear all website data when logged off.

More specifically, “Forgetful Browsing” will clear stored values like cookies, localStorage, or indexedDB and indirectly stored values like the HTTP cache or DNS cache. This data – known as first-party data helps websites to re-identify you on subsequent visits, they often pose risk.

Storing such values will allow the websites to make a rich data profile of you and eventually help the companies to target their ads better. Thus, you need to decide to either be in a strict privacy mode or have them track for a smooth experience. You can set Forgetful Browsing for all websites by default, or some specific ones.

Well, Brave clarifies that ‘Forgetful Browsing’ will apply to sites and not domains, and will be available on Brave browser for the desktop, app v1.53. Android users need to wait a bit longer, until version 1.54. Once available, you can toggle this on Settings > Shields > Click on “Forget me when I close a site”.
