Chinese OEM leads the Southeast Asian smartphone Market in Q2 2020 revealed by the Canalys. Canalys a firm that monitors smartphone sales and its performance globally.
According to them, Chinese OEM Vivo and realme shows a massive year on year growth for the Q2 of 2020 ended in June,
All major Chinese brands which include Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, realme lead the smartphone sales over other brands. These four brands occupy the top five spots on the list. The list indicates the bestselling smartphone brand in Q2 of 2020.
Samsung is the only non-Chinese brand that comes in the top five list with 21% of smartphone sales. The report shows that Samsung is the bestselling smartphone brand among others. Despite the decrease in sales, Samsung still tops the list dominating Chinese brands.
Chinese OEM sales in Q2 of 2020:
Oppo took the second spot next to Samsung with a total share of 20%. Oppo’s share is slightly less than that of Samsung. Vivo shows a huge growth at comes at third spot with an 18% share. The Q2 Vivo shows a 20% year on year growth. Realme and Xiaomi come at fourth and fifth spots with 12% and 11% market share. Realme shows a tremendous year on year growth of 102%.
The Q2 of 2020 came hard to most of the companies as the world moves towards strict lockdown. Due to the lockdown, the smartphone business saw a huge decline in many countries. That is the reason apart from Vivo and realme all other brand shows negative growth. Samsung is hit with a negative growth of -26% year on year. Oppo and Xiaomi also saw a negative year on year growth of -25% and -18% respectively.
Still, in the lockdown situation, Vivo and realme perform better than expected. They show the positive year on year growth which is surprising for many of us.
Overall there is a 13% year on year increase in sales for smartphones which is something a good news report Canalys. It shows that the businesses are being gradually back to normal. The economies are recovering as many governments lifting lockdown gradually.
