Crop a photo in a circle

Cropping images as per our needs is a necessity. It is one of the basic needs while editing our pictures so that we can post them on social media. Whether it be cropping pictures by region, or different shapes like rectangle or square, we always find it easy to crop pictures using photo editing software or Paint for getting the work done. Why not crop a photo in a circle using paint?

Many of you might be thinking that Paint does not come with circle shape in the crop section. Then, how to crop a photo in a circle in paint? It is still possible to crop a photo in a circle using paint, you just need to follow the easy steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Open an image you want to crop

Step 2: Zoom in the image you chose to open by clicking on the minus sign at the bottom-right corner.

Step 3: Go to the shapes option and select the oval shape.

Step 4: On the white side, draw a circle by pressing your mouse and holding shift. Shift helps in drawing the oval shape into a circle. Once received the required shape, release the mouse and shift button.

Step 4: Fill the circle with any color. I chose the black color.

Step 5: Now, go to the select option and select the transparent selection option. The transparent selection option will create a transparent background for the next selected image area.

Step 6: Now, click on the black circle you created and then right-click and select the copy option.

Step 7: Now, you need to change the color 2 option to a black color and then click on the paste option.

Step 8: You will see that a circle frame is displayed in the image area. You can move the frame to whichever area of the image you want to crop in a circle.

Step 9: After placing it at a suitable area, click on the select option and then click on the crop icon just next to select an option.

Step 10: You will receive a picture cropped in a circle with square edges.

You can also crop a photo in a circle using Paint 3D. Paint 3D is the upgraded version of Paint launched by Microsoft. However, just like Paint, Paint 3D also does not support cropping a picture in a circle with just a simple click.

But, we ca still crop a photo in a circle just like we can in Paint.

Step 1: Open the image you want to crop.

Step 2: Now, choose the circle shape from the 2D shapes option.

Step 3: Now, draw a circle. For getting a proper shape, press the mouse button and hold the shift key. Release the button when achieved in the proper shape.

You can adjust the size of the circle if you don’t get it right the first time.

Step 4: Before clicking anywhere on the screen, make sure to set the parameters right. Select in None option in the Fill parameter and Solid for the Line type parameter. Also, make sure to select the white color for the Line type.

You need to keep the thickness of the circle to 100px for the best results.

Step 5: Now, crop the image in square shape. Make sure to adjust the crop selection I such a way that it touches the edges of the circle you made.

Step 6: Now, erase the outer part of the circle. To do so, click on the brush icon and select an eraser from it.


To erase the extra part, hold the left mouse button and drag it over the outer area of the circle.

Step 7: After erasing, you will get an image just like below. You can either fill the outer area with some color or make it transparent.

Even though the method shared with you guys is too long but it is a good thing to have and that’s all Microsoft has in store for us.
