Previously we heard that Facebook is planning to change its brand name to a new name. Now at its Connect 2021, Keynote Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company’s new name is “Meta”. “We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”
The new name is the company’s plan to move from just a Social Media platform to creating a metaverse. The company is now focusing more on mixed reality platforms and artificial intelligence.
At its Connect 2021 conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that they will be rebranding Facebook to “Meta”. Although Facebook will remain as a standalone app along with Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. All these apps are now part of the Metaverse along with other services and products under the brand “Meta”. Mark Zuckerberg said that “This is something that Google did in the previous years when it changed its name to Alphabet”.
He also said that:
“As part of this, it’s time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do. To reflect who we are and what we hope to build. I’m proud to announce our company is now Meta”.
Mark said that the Facebook brand name is only limited to a single platform instead of representing all the services the company offers and will offer in the future.
Meta represents all the Facebook apps and their upcoming development towards virtual and augmented reality.
