Galaxy S6: How to Access Launcher Settings

The launcher is something we interact with every single day so let’s find out how to access the launcher settings on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Android has a system called the launcher and this is where our applications live. When you’re browsing the Home Screen or looking through your application drawer then you are actually using what Android calls the launcher. There are multiple custom launchers in the Google Play Store that you can pick between if you ever get bored of your own but Samsung has made the TouchWiz launcher fairly customizable so you might not ever feel the need to do this.

As with all Samsung features, it comes packed with customization options and that is really nice for when you want to change something.

There’s been a move toward making things incredibly simple and while this might work for some, it seems to go against what Android was originally about. Some might call Samsung’s feature packed software bloated, but I feel that it is actually a refreshing experience. That is, assuming that the company can keep the software optimized and they’ve done a good job of that this past year.

So let’s take a look at how to access the launcher settings on TouchWiz. . .

Galaxy S6 Launcher Settings

  1. Pinch In on the Home Screen or Tap and Hold on an Empty Spot

That’s it! We generally see OEMs so the tap and hold gesture to access the launcher settings and Samsung has been allowing this for a while. There’s also the pinch gesture that will enable the launcher settings as well though and this can be handy if your home screen is full of applications. Accessing these settings will make the Home Screen ‘shrink’ so that they can display the launcher settings underneath the home screen panels. You’ll see icons for features like the Wallpaper, Widgets, Themes and the Screen Grid but you can do a lot more here than just tinker with those settings.

I’ll be detailing a few of these tips as the week goes on but feel free to explore around here and find out what Samsung has packed into TouchWiz. Just be sure that you remember what you set because if you forget then it might difficult to restore it back to how it was. Let me know what your favorite TouchWiz launcher setting is in the comments section below. Mine has to be the ability to change the screen grid directly from the launcher without having to edit the build.prop file. . .but the Themes are nice too 🙂

  1. It didn’t work. My whole screen has changed because it popped up with some question which I didn;t know how to answer and suddenly I’m stuck with this horrible home screen with huge app icons and blanks spaces with plus marks on them, and no bottom bar. None of the things that are advised to do work with this new screen please help!

    1. What questions did you see pop up? What do these ‘huge app icons’ look like? It sounds like you may have enabled ‘easy mode’ or something while you were tinkering around in the settings.

I mean, this guide has one step and bringing up the home screen settings panel isn’t going to change your phone to like this unless you went in and changed some settings around.
