Gmail

With the latest update, Gmail is getting the calling option. Users can make and receive calls within Gmail in one-on-one chats.

As Google office suite is now called Google Workspace which is integrated into Gmail. Last year google brought many of its services like Google Meet, Task, calendar, chats into Gmail. Now using Google Meet and Google Chat users can make and receive calls within Gmail web or mobile app with the next update.

Gmail app will receive the notification of any incoming calls as well as the Google Meet app. However, Google is working on the VoIP call feature for the standalone Meet app and will update the app soon.

Google email service is also getting a new feature called “Spaces”. It offers slack-like services through which users can team up in a group chat.

Google is also integrating more workspace tools in email’s web and mobile apps. Google’s email app now has three tabs called Chat, Spaces, and Meet along with the emails after the latest update. Users can make direct one-on-one calls through Google Meet using Gmail. With this feature users don’t even need to create a meeting link to call someone. They just make the call (both voice and video) directly to someone.

Senior Director of Product Management at Google, Sanaz Ahari said:

“Our intention is to bring Meet calling to all the natural endpoints in Workspace where you’d initiate an ad-hoc call including chats, people cards, and Spaces, but this will come first to one-to-one chats within the Google’s email mobile app.”
