At it’s annual developer conference 2022, Google finally took the wrap from Google Pixel 6a with the same tensor chip that we have seen previously in Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. It is the successor of last year’s Pixel 5a and comes with a competitive price and some upgrades including a dual rear camera system.
Here is a detailed look at the specification of the device.
Google Pixel 6a specifications:
The Pixel 6a has the same design with a bar at the back just like it’s flagship counterparts. It sports a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display that comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and has a 1080*2340 pixels resolution. This is for the first time that Google launch a budget device with an in-display fingerprint scanner. However, this display does not support the fast refresh rate and comes with a standard 60 Hz refresh rate which is just disappointing considering the competition. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 3 just like it’s predecessor.

As mentioned earlier, it is powered by the Same Google in-house tensor chip that was used in the Pixel 6 series along with the Titan M2 co-processor for improved security. The chipset is paired with the 6GB of latest LPDDR5x RAM and a 128GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage. It is surprising that Google uses the latest RAM and storage in this device and not the old one used in it’s predecessor. The device packs a 4410 mAh battery pack with fast charging support. As per Google, the device can last up to 72 hours in extreme battery saver mode.

On the rear side is a dual-camera system placed in a pill-shaped camera module. The camera system consists of a 12.2 MP wide-angle lens and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens. This is also the first time that Google bring a dual-camera system to it’s budget device. On the front is an 8 MP Sony IMX355 selfie camera for selfies and video calls. There is also a downgrade in the camera department as Google did not use the 50 MP ISOCELL GN1 main sensor in this device that was present in the Pixel 6 series.
The main camera lens in this device can record 4K videos up to 30FPS and 60FPS. Other Google software-based camera features such as Face Unblur, Google Magic eraser, real tone, and more are also present in this device. On the other hand, the selfie camera can record only 1080p videos at 30fps.
The device runs on stock Android 12 out of the box and Google promised three years of major Android OS updates and five years of security updates. It is a budget device that comes with a price tag of $449 and there is only one 6GB +128GB storage variant. The price is very attractive and with these specifications, it is a good option under $500.
