Method 1- Time Machine

The first method which can be used to downgrade Mojave to any lower version is through the Time Machine method. It works when you have a previous backup before the upgrade took place.

If there is a previous backup, then it can be restored using the Time Machine, which can be performed in a few steps mentioned below:

Switch On the power button, then hold Command + R. It opens the MacOS utilities. From the MacOS utility, select restore from the Time Machine backup and then click continue. The final step to downgrade your MacOS from Mojave to a lower version will take place when you finally select the recent backup which is there on your hard drive. After the restoration gets completed, the system will reboot and you will get the old version back.

Method 2- Downgrading the MacOS without a Time Machine backup

The second method to downgrade MacOS from Mojave to a lower version can be done without a Time Machine backup. The system can be brought back to a lower version, but it’s a bit complicated, which can be read below:

Creating a bootable installer:

Insert the USB. Rename it to Installer Download High Sierra from the App Store. Open terminal For downgrading it to a High Sierra, following command is to be used – Sudo/Application/Install\ MacOS\ High\Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Installer –applicationpath/Application/Install\ MacOS\ High\ Sierra.app

Type the above command and hit enter. The system prompts for the admin password, type the password and click Enter. Type ‘Y’ when prompted. Wait for a few minutes. The process takes around 25-30 minutes after clicking the Enter key and then the terminal window will show the task completed screen so that you can remove the USB drive.

To install the High Sierra from the bootable installer created above, we have to perform the second process, i.e., Removal of Mojave from Mac.

Immediately hold the Command + R keys at start-up. It opens the MacOS utilities. Under the MacOS utilities, select Disk Utility and click continue. Now select your Mac start-up disk and format it to ‘’MacOS extended Journaled’’. Click apply. Wait for some time and the process will complete and the Mojave will be erased from your system. Now the system is ready to install the High Sierra from our previously created bootable installer.

Now the third process is to install the High Sierra from the bootable installer. To install it, follow the process below:

Insert the bootable USB to the Mac. Now hold the command + R key after pressing the power button of the Mac and it should be done immediately. Click install High Sierra. The process will take some time and the now the system is ready with High Sierra, followed by some agreement. Click continue and you will get the downgraded version of Mojave, i.e., High Sierra ready to be run on your Mac.
