Split Screen On iPad

You can use the iPad in many ways to get your work done and one of the most exciting facilities of iPad is that you can split your screen into two parts and work on both. It is a very useful feature to multitask or when you have to take notes from another app. If you want to utilize this feature and can’t find out how to do this, this article is for you. We have discussed here how to split screen on iPad, replace an app, and return to full screen.

Let’s start.

Steps to split screen on iPad?

Follow the steps mentioned below to open a split-screen. But first, you have to be sure that the app you want to open in split-screen is already present in your Dock which is a small bar of app icons that you can see at the bottom of your screen. As dock shows the recently used app, you have to open the app once and again close it to use it in your iPad split-screen. Let’s go to the following steps:-

After having your preferred app in the dock, open another app with which you want to use your split-screen.

Now swipe up the bottom of the screen gently to only show the dock. Note that if you swipe up too hard, it’ll take you back to the home screen. Just swipe as much as it needs to float the dock over your app.

Tap and hold the preferred app in the dock and drag it to the right part of your screen and leave. Now you can see the two apps side by side. By using the divider, you can adjust the space for both apps.

Note – If you release the app without dragging it all the way to the screen’s edge, it’ll not be a split-screen but Slide Over. It is a different feature with the dragged app floating on the top of the app in a small window.

How to get back to full screen?

If you have two screens side-by-side on your iPad and want to close one, you can do it easily and return to the full-screen view.

You’ll see the divider bar between two apps. All you have to do is drag the bar to the extreme left or extreme right of the screen, depending on your preference. By dragging it to the extreme left, you’ll close the app you’re having on the left. After doing this, you’ll have only one app on the screen.

If you’re still having the second app in a small window floating on the top of the main app, you have to tap and hold the grey bar that you can see on the top of the floating app and drag the app downwards.

The screen will again return into the split-screen, and now you can close one using the divider.

Note – You can temporarily close the floating screen by holding and dragging the grey bar to the right. The flying window will then go offscreen, and you can bring it back by swiping it left from the right edge of your screen.

How to Replace An App in Split View?

If you’ve already opened the split-screen and now want to change the app in your split-screen, you can replace the screen by following some simple steps. Follow the steps mentioned below:-

Go to the top of the app you are willing to replace and swipe down from the three-dotted multitasking button.

Now, the app will drop down, allowing other apps to move to its side.
