Google officially rolled out the public beta of Android 13 for the supported Pixel devices. In this article, we will show you how to upgrade from the Android 12L beta program to the Android 13 beta without losing any of your data. Switching between betas is not the most common thing that people do but that is because with previous beta releases you end up losing all of your data if you had to switch away from the beta you are currently participating in.
However, if you are going from the Android 12L beta to the Android 13 beta program then it should work as long as you are following the steps we mention in this article.
Here is the step-by-step guide to upgrading your Pixel device from Android 12L to Android 13:
Step 1: Visit the Android Beta website and log in with your Google account.
Step 2: Scroll down to the list of eligible devices. All the devices that are linked with your Google account will be listed there. You will see an “opt-out” option below your device name that is currently on the Android 12L beta. Click on the opt-out button, and a prompt will pop out asking you for the confirmation. Click on the leave beta program to opt out of the Android 12L beta.
Step 3: Once you opt-out of the beta program, you will see an opt-in button again under your device name. Click on the opt-in button.
Step 4: You will see a prompt window asking you to choose a Beta program you want to enter. Click on Android 13 beta, then click on review terms, and click on Agree.
You will see another prompt window telling you that your device is now enrolled in the Android 13 beta program. Now, you have to look for a system update just like the normal for downloading and installing an OTA update.
Step 5: Open the Settings app on your device, scroll down and tap the option of the system.
Step 6: Navigate System update and Tap on it.
Step 7: Tap on check update.
Step 8: You will see the Download and Install update as the Android 13 Beta system update is available for your device. If the update is not available then check the update again or wait for a few minutes and then check the update again.
Step 9: Tap on Download and Install updates. Your phone will start downloading and installing the update. After installing the update your device will optimize the apps your device as well. The process will take a bit longer as the update is over 1GB so you will have a wait and be patient.
Step 10: Once the update has been downloaded and installed on your device, you will see a restart button. Tap on the restart button.
Your device will boot normally back in the Android operating system with all of your data. After you boot up into Android, go into the settings app and check the OS and build number of Android. That’s it. This is how you can switch from one Beta to another without losing any of your data.
