WhatsApp recently mass rolled out a message reaction feature for every user on Android and iOS. WhatsApp is late to the party as this feature is already present in other messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger. Considering the huge daily active user base of almost 2 billion this is a good step from a Meta-owned chat app to include a message reaction feature on the app.

The feature allows users to react to a message using the presets of emojis without replying to a message. With the help of emojis, users can express their feelings or sentiments towards a certain message. It is also very useful in such situations when recipients don’t know what to answer to a certain message so they can easily react to it using emojis and express their feelings.

In this article, we will show you how to use WhatsApp message reaction features in both private and group chats. Any user on Android and iOS can use this feature if it is available for them. Yes, WhatsApp released this feature for everyone but considering the huge user base, it takes some time for everyone to get this feature.

The feature has been in Beta for quite some time and earlier it was available for a few beta testers. But it is widely available to everyone and this news was shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on it’s Facebook page and WhatsApp Head Will Cathcart also shared the news on his Twitter profile and on the company’s blog.

How to use the WhatsApp message reaction feature?

The first thing you need to do is to update your app on Android or iOS from The Playstore or App store as this feature is only available for the latest version of the app. After updating WhatsApp on your mobile, follow the steps below if you want to use this feature:

Step 1. Open WhatsApp

Step 2. Open the chat. It can be a group chat or a private chat as well.

Step 3. Long press the message to whom you want to react.

Step 4. When you long-press the message a set of six emojis will appear at the bottom.

Step 5. Choose your desired emoji and it will appear at the bottom of the message.

That’s it. This is how you can react to a certain message on WhatsApp.

Note: If you don’t see any emojis when you long-press a message, then it means you have to wait for a little for this feature to reach your app. It may take a few days or even months to reach every user worldwide.

Emojis available for the reaction:

At the moment there are six basic and most common emojis available for message reactions. These emojis are:

  • Folded hands
  • Face with tears of joy
  • Crying face
  • Face with open mouth
  • Hearts
  • Thumbs up
