Instagram is introducing a subscription-based model for creators to give them the option to increase their earnings and earn more. This feature is available for only ten creators in the United States as the company wants to test this feature and observe users’ interest.

At the start, the creators will post live streams and stories behind a paywall and that will only be visible to paid subscribers. The paid stories and live stream will also be saved in the user’s profiles as a highlight with a purple ring and that will differentiate from other stories and posts.

Also, the paid subscribers will get the purple badge on their profiles which will let creators know that they are the paid subscribers. Creators will also see the purple badge in the comments section if a paid user made any comment on the post. It is up to the creators if they want to give special attention to their paid subscribers.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that in the future more features will be added for paid subscribers. Soon creators will also be able to export their subscribers and paid followers to other apps and websites associated with Instagram. “bring them off of Instagram to other apps and websites built by other companies,” said Adam Mosseri.

Creators can set their own monthly subscription fees and their followers will see a subscribe button in the creator’s profile. This feature is only available to a few creators in the United States but the company said that they will make this feature available for more creators soon. Meta-owned Instagram will not share any subscription fee with the creators until 2023, the company said previously.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said,

“This will help creators earn more by offering benefits to their most engaged followers like access to exclusive Lives and Stories. I am excited to keep building tools for creators to make a living doing creative work and to put these tools in more creators’ hands soon.”
