Some apps and games can spam you with notifications, so today I want to show you a quick and easy way to turn off app notifications on the LG G5.
While most apps generally do a good job of only using notifications when you actually need to be alerted about something important. . .some developers take advantage of Android’s notification system. I see this a lot with the free-to-play games, where they don’t want you to forget about them as they make their money from you actually playing the game.
Even still, most games give you the option to disable their notifications from within the game’s own settings menu, but this isn’t always the case.
Thankfully, Google has given us a way to block notifications on Android at the OS level. Different OEMs implement this feature in different ways. Google just keeps this feature in the Apps section and that’s all good. A lot of people don’t know that this feature exists though, and so they wouldn’t even begin to look within the Apps section. I think some OEMs have started to realize this because both LG and Samsung have now added a second way to access the block app notifications section.
In the video below, I show you how to access this feature from both ways on the LG G5. For the guide below though, I only explain the quicker of the two methods.
LG G5 Disable App Notifications
- Launch the Settings Application
- Tap on the ‘Sound & Notification’ Tab
- Scroll Down and Tap on the ‘Apps’ Option within the ‘Notifications’ Section
- Locate and Tap on the App You Want to Disable Notifications for
- Toggle the ‘Block’ Option to Disable App Notifications for that App
To begin, we will need to launch the Settings application and then tap on the Sound & Notification tab toward the top. Then, you’ll need to scroll down and look for the Notifications section within this tab. In here, you’ll find an option simple labeled Apps and you’ll need to tap on that option. This will take you to a screen that will list all of the installed applications on your LG G5. By default, it’s set to show all apps, but you can use the drop down menu to filter which apps are shown.
If you’re wanting to disable app notifications for the LG G5, then you will likely want to keep this filter set to show all of your applications. From here, you’ll need to scroll through the list and find the app(s) or game(s) that are bothering you with its notifications. Tap on that app or game and then you’ll see a Block option at the top of the list. All you have to do is toggle this Block option on, and then Android will not show you anymore notifications from that app or game.
Once the Block feature is toggled on, you can press the home button and go about your day. Alternatively, you could also access this feature another way (as mentioned earlier). You do have the option to go into the Settings, tap on the General tab, tap on the Apps option and then tap on an application that you want to block the notifications for. From here, you’ll see an option for that app labeled Notifications and tapping on that option will take you to a screen with the same Block toggle as shown above.
If at any time in the future, you want to start receiving notifications from an app or game that you’ve previously blocked, you can do so by going through these exact same steps. Either method will work as all you need to do is toggle the Block option to off. There’s no need to toggle it on or off using both methods, and they essentially take you to the same page. LG just gave you a shortcut with the method I talk about in the guide above.
