LG G5: Lock Screen Swipe Effects

You have probably seen the default lock screen swipe effect on the LG G5, but today I want to show you that there are 4 different effects to choose from.

Some OEMs have included a number of different visual effect features to their OEM skin. This used to be common with screen on and screen off effects, but even Samsung stopped including that feature in their smartphones. LG doesn’t have this screen on/off effect with the LG G5, but they do have some unique screen swipe effects for when you’re unlocking the device. Granted, most people might not even know about this if they are using the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

For those who do not use the fingerprint scanner though, it’s a nice little touch that you can use to customize and personalize your device the way you like it.

By default, this feature is set to an option called Particle, but there are 3 other options to choose from here. There’s Soda, Basic Circle and then Vector Circle. I’m surprised LG didn’t add another option here to let the user disable the feature, but you can always use the fingerprint scanner on the back if you don’t want to see it.

LG G5 Lock Screen Swipe Effects

  1. Launch the Settings Application
  2. Tap on the ‘Display’ Tab
  3. Tap on the ‘Lock Screen’ Option
  4. Tap on the ‘Screen Swipe Effect’ Option
  5. Select the LG G5 Lock Screen Swipe Effect You Want
  6. Then Tap on the OK Button at the Bottom Right

Explanation

If you want a demonstration of what each of these 4 LG G5 Lock Screen Swipe Effects look like, then definitely check out the video embedded above. I walk you through the entire process, as described in the guide on this page, and also show you what each of these effects look like. To change the one you’re currently set to, you’ll need to launch the Settings application and then tap on the Display tab at the top of the screen.

From here, tap on the Lock Screen option within this settings menu and then tap on the Screen Swipe Effect option. Unless you have changed this in the past, the default LG G5 Lock Screen Swipe Effect is set to Particle. So from here, all you have to do is tap on the effect you want to change it to, and then tap on the bold OK button that you see at the bottom right of the screen. The page you were currently at will minimize and then you can lock the display and try out the new effect.

I’m still unclear why LG didn’t include an option here, maybe a toggle, to disable this effect entirely. But like I said, with so many people using the fingerprint scanner on their phones, I doubt most people see this effect, or even know the feature is there. LG always has the ability to add a disable option here in future updates and they can always choose to add more lock screen swipe effects here as well.

Whether or not they will, is a different story, but they always have the option to if they decide to expand upon this feature.

  1. Each of the four effects has a different annoying sound. How do I get rid of the stupid sound?

  2. How do I get rid of this sh!t?! I just want to swipe up without any effect, I just want to turn it off!

    1. I would use a custom launcher. Lawnchair is popular these days. I still prefer Nova Launcher though. Lots of customization options but you can really set things up how you like it.
