MediaTek Announced Dimensity 9200 Chip With WiFi 7 Support

Competing strongly with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, MediaTek has announced it’s next-gen flagship processor – the Dimensity 9200 today.

The new chip is WiFi 7 ready and is the first one from MediaTek to support both the 5G bands. Aside from this, it uses the ARMv9 Gen 2 architecture and the Immortalis-G715 GPU, making it superior on both graphics and speed fronts. A phone with Dimensity 9200 is said to be coming by this year’s fall.

MediaTek’s New Flagship Chip

For many years, MediaTek has been competing fiercely with Qualcomm to stand as it’s equivalent in the mobile processor industry. But most OEMs choose Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips for their flagships while settling with MediaTek’s in their budget phones.

But changing the fate, MediaTek is gradually being chosen by OEMs for their latest flagships, too, especially i’ts Dimensity series. The latest one in this pursuit is the Dimensity 9200, which MediaTek has launched now. The company says Dimensity 9200 is WiFi 7 ready, but you need a compatible network chip and a router to test this.

If available, you may hit theoretical speeds of up to 6.5Gbps. Further, it’s the only chip from MediaTek to support both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G bands, so you can leverage the best 5G speeds in any area.

Dimensity 9200 is the first mobile chip to use the ARMv9 Gen 2 architecture, where it comes with 4 Cortex-A510 cores for power saving, while three cores of Cortex-A715 and one Cortex-X3 core for handling intensive jobs.

MediaTek claims this new setup has a 10-12% boost over the Dimensity 9000 in synthetic tests and reduced power consumption by over grand 25%! Also, the new chip possesses ARM’s new Immortalis-G715 GPU, which supports hardware ray tracing and is 32% faster than the one in it’s predecessor.

Finally, the Dimensity 9200 has an Imagiq 890 image signal processor for sucking more light and details into the photos, and it is much better than the regular RGB, says MediaTek. All these help the system to support a UFS 4.0 storage, the latest LPDDR5X memory (8.5Gbps), and 24-bit/192KHz audio.
