MediaTek unveiled a new chipset designed for Android tablets and Chromebooks. This is a new addition to its already growing line of chipsets for mobile devices. The chipmaker is giving Qualcomm a tough time, as previously it announced a new chipset for smart TVs and now for Android tablets and Chromebooks. The newly announced Kompanio 1380 SoC for tablets and Chromebooks brings many high-end features for flagship-grade devices.

The Kompanio 1380 chipset is built on a 6nm fabrication process. It is an octa-core chipset that includes four Cortex A78 high-performance cores clocked at 3GHz and four power-efficient Cortez A55 focused cores. It also includes Mali G57 five core-based GPU to handle all the graphics-intensive tasks. The company also included 4k 60 fps HDR display support, a dedicated audio DSP (Digital Signal Processor), and AV1 hardware decoding support in this new chipset.

The chipmaker didn’t forget to include new technologies like Artificial intelligence and machine learning. The chipset comes with the MediaTek APU 3.0 platforms through which it attains 4 TOPS Performance. On the connectivity front, it is equipped with Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth support.

According to MediaTek, it “stands out with its outstanding processing performance, best-in-class multimedia and AI features, and smooth cloud gaming capabilities, all integrated into an ultra-efficient 6nm chip.”

Acer Chromebook Spin 513 will be the first chrome book to be launched with this new chipset in 2022 and it will go on sale in June 2022. More new Chromebooks and tablets will be launched soon with this new chipset – the company claims.
