Microsoft Plans to Set Bing as Firefox’s Default Search Engine

Microsoft is planning to bring its Bing Search to Firefox, according to a report from The Information.

The Redmond company has a long history of pressing its Edge and Bing services to users through its Windows 11 and inducing this in Firefox too will give a good boost. Thus, Microsoft is reportedly eyeing the expiration of the Google-Firefox partnership, and befriending Firefox for its own sake.

Bing Search in Firefox

Though Microsoft often listens to customer feedback, it goes numb when it comes to its web browser. The company has long been pushing Edge browser and Bing Search as the default services on Windows 11 and now expanding to make them available from other OEMs.

As per The Information, Microsoft is planning to make its Bing Search a default search engine for the Firefox browser. This may happen once Firefox’s contract with Google expires later this year and Microsoft comes in with a sweet deal for the former.

Though this may not increase the popularity of Bing instantly, it can slowly make users like it for several reasons. Microsoft has heavily invested in OpenAI’s GPT-4 – which is now integrated into Bing Search. As it comes with unlimited queries and a simple UI, users are trying the Edge browser more than ever.

And the same could happen if it succeeds with the Firefox deal. But if you don’t like using Bing on Firefox, you can always switch to an alternate search engine available within the browser. All that Microsoft wants to do is set Bing as Firefox’s default search engine – the one you may use when set up initially. You can later switch to Google, Yahoo, or others.

If not this, Microsoft may lay its hands on the Safari browser! Yes, Apple’s native browser is currently having Google as its default search engine, which is benefiting Google a lot. As their contract for this setup expires next year, Microsoft may well sneak into this with a good offer.
