Google announced the Android M developer preview build for a handful of Nexus devices and this is how you can download it for your Nexus 5.

Google has a history(meaning as of last year) releasing a developer preview build for some of the most recent Nexus devices. Android M is no different and you can download it for the Nexus 5 right now. The install is rather easy too and I will cover that in a different article. Right now I just want to focus on the Nexus 5 and where to do go download the Android M developer preview.

What we’re doing here is visiting the official Android M developer preview page from Google and we’re going to download the specific file you need. If you look at the page linked in the tutorial above, we’re going to see downloads for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player. We will need to download the developer preview build for the Nexus 5(which has the codename Hammerhead). Clicking the blue link for the Nexus 5 brings up a terms and conditions page that you need to agree to before you can download it.

Check the box to agree with the terms and conditions and then the Download button will not be grey anymore. Clicking this button will start the download where you can save it anywhere on your desktop. You’re downloading just one file but this is a compressed file that houses a number of other files. If you know how to flash this with Fastboot and ADB then great, but if not, stay tuned and I’ll write a guide for how to flash it onto your Nexus 5 very soon.
