The leaks have emerged online that Google Pixel 6a will launch with the same tensor chip as its bigger siblings but with a downgraded primary camera.
The “a” series is Google’s mid-range series launch in 2019 with Pixel 3a being the first model in the series. The USP of the “a” series is the pure Android OS, exclusive Google features, great camera system, an upper mid-range chipset, and an affordable price.
Previous, Google Pixel 6a leaks gave details about the design and build of the device which looks quite similar to its bigger siblings.
Now new leaks claim that the upcoming Pixel 6a device will come with the same tensor chip used in Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro but with a downgraded camera system.
By doing the camera app teardown, the 9to5Google Apk insight team discovered some interesting facts about the camera hardware of the upcoming device. The Google Pixel 6a might use a 12.2 MP Sony IMX363 sensor instead of a big Samsung 50 MO GN1 sensor used in its bigger siblings. There will also be a 12 MP Sony IMX 386 ultra-wide sensor and an 8 MP IMX 355 front-facing camera which is also part of the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro devices.
Samsung’s 50 MP GNI provides better images as it is a big sensor through which more light can pass. Sony 12.2 MP IMX 363 sensor is the same which was previously used in Google’s Pixel 5a. So the images taken from Pixel 6a will be similar to those of Pixel 5a unless Google brings some extraordinary image processing algorithm to improve the image quality.
Pixel 5a from earlier this year suffered overheating issues during a 4K video recording so that’s why Google might consider using its in-house tensor chip instead of a Qualcomm chipset.
It is not new, as previously many companies including Apple used hardware from the previous generation to cut manufacturing costs.
Google Pixel 6a:
More leaks and early renders suggest that the device will have a similar design as that of the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It will feature a flat 6.2” OLED display panel and a punch-hole at the center of the screen for the selfie camera. On the rear side is the camera bar where the dual rear cameras and the LED flashlight will reside.
