Puma Employees Sensitive Data Stolen in Kronos Ransomware Attack

In the unfortunate incident of the Kronos ransomware attack, hackers have stolen sensitive data of a few of Kronos clients, where Puma is one among them.

This led the Puma employees’ data to be breached, who are now being notified through Kronos. They’re also offered a two-year credit monitoring service for checking any fraudulent transactions through the victim accounts.

Puma Employees Sensitive Data Stolen in Kronos Ransomware Attack

Puma is one of the largest sportswear brands having multi-billion income every year, and employing over 14,000 employees worldwide. With such large-scale operations, the company is supposed to take the help of third-party firms to process some services. And it did partner with Kronos for workforce service management.

And this unfortunately turned into a mistake, affecting thousands of it’s employees. Kronos has suffered a ransomware attack in December last year, where hackers had stolen sensitive information stored in Kronos Private Cloud before encrypting it.

The Kronos Private Cloud (KPC) is a secure place for storing the company’s and its clients’ data regarding Workforce TeleStaff, Workforce Central, Enterprise Archive, TeleTime IP, Extensions for Healthcare (EHC), and FMSI environments.

Kronos said these were secured through multiple layers of security, like the firewalls, multi-factor authentication, and encrypted transmissions for protection. Yet, data was stolen from its network, with Puma being one of the highly affected clients.

In a report to Maine State Attorney General, Kronos said that data of about 6,632 individuals were impacted, with some of them being from Puma. The PII includes employees’ Social Security Numbers, Kronos said.

After detecting the incident, Kronos informed Puma about this breach on January 10th and started a deep investigation into it.

Now in a fresh announcement made earlier this month, Kronos stated offering free two years of Experian IdentityWorks membership, which includes credit monitoring, identify restoration, and identity theft insurance for all the affected individuals in this incident.
