A report published by the Digitimes states that Qualcomm has partnered with ASUS to launch its own gaming phone. This gaming phone will be unveiled in December at the Snapdragon Tech Summit. The Snapdragon Tech Summit will be happening from 1st to 2nd December 2020.
Qualcomm didn’t reveal much information about the upcoming device but we assume that it will use the upcoming Snapdragon 875 Chipset. The Snapdragon 875 SoC will also revel at the same Snapdragon Tech Summit event in December.
ASUS is a well-known brand when it comes to gaming phones as ASUS ROG devices are very popular among mobile gamers. ASUS already launched three gaming devices under its Gaming division ROG (Republic of Gamers). On the other hand, Qualcomm hasn’t launched a smartphone yet and this gaming device will be the company’s first smartphone. Although the chipmaker has developed some sample boards through which they test their chipset.
XDA reported that both the companies are jointly purchasing the components which indicate that the upcoming ASUS ROG and Qualcomm Gaming phone might be very similar. These devices may carry similar design language and the specs and even the price. Both these companies may jointly manufacture 500,000 devices in 2021.
As Nvidia acquired UK based GPU manufacturer ARM last month there will be a tough competition for Qualcomm. Nvidia and ARM both are manufacturing a GPU chip with the name of GeForce which will replace Mali. Mali GPU is directly competing with the Adreno GPU which Qualcomm manufactures. Both the ASUS and Qualcomm devices will use the Adreno GPU which strengthen the chipmaker its position further.
