Twitter Bans Live Location Sharing of Others

Twitter changed it’s privacy policy document to include a ban on live location-sharing practices on the platform, citing physical harm to those people whose data was shared.

Well, there are a few exceptions – like users can share the past location history of others or the live location if the candidate is related to a public engagement or an event. Further, anyone can share their own live location data on Twitter.

Live Location on Twitter

As Elon Musk preaches free speech on Twitter, the social media platform has tweaked it’s privacy policy to ban accounts that share the live location of others – citing physical harm to them!

In a series of tweets, the Twitter Safety handle stated, “When someone shares an individual’s live location on Twitter, there is an increased risk of physical harm,” thus prohibiting this practice.

Any tweets revealing the live location of others will be automatically taken down, while the accounts sharing them will be suspended. An example of this is @ElonJet being suspended, which used to share the live tracking data of Elon Musk’s private jet.

Though Musk earlier said he wouldn’t act against it, despite it being a “direct personal safety risk” to him – but was now taken down eventually. “Moving forward, we’ll remove Tweets that share this information, and accounts dedicated to sharing someone else’s live location will be suspended”, said Twitter Safety.

Although, there are some exceptions to this new policy. Users can share the live location of others if it’s related to a “public engagement or event,” like a concert or a political event. And the historical location data if it’s not concerning the subject/party now and later. And their own live location is okay with it.
