US Clears Tesla’s In-Car Gaming Feature

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just closed an investigation against Tesla – regarding it’s in-car gaming option while the vehicle is moving.

The agency checked over 580,000 Tesla vehicles all this time to determine potential distracted driving caused by this gaming support. Tesla has immediately removed this option in all of it’s vehicles via an OTA update.

One of the many features that excite Tesla buyers is the internal smart entertainment system – which includes gaming on the dash screen while the car is moving! Well, this was deemed unfit by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2021, resulting in an investigation.

The agency cited possible driver distractions due to this internal gaming system since it’s playable when the car is in motion. Tesla immediately pushed an OTA update to address this and covered 97% of it’s fleet within a month.

And since the OEM may have limited this gaming ability – making it only possible when the car is still – the agency has now closed the investigation after checking more than 580,000 Tesla vehicles during this period.

This news triggered Tesla shares to rise 3% on Tuesday, as it was partially given a green signal for the dash-screen gaming. Though the agency closed the case citing no issues in it’s latest update, it warns to take action on finding any future safety-related defect.
