There were many leaks and rumors about the upcoming foldable from Vivo dubbed Vivo X Fold and today the company officially launched the device in China as it’s first folding device. With the previous leaks and rumors, we know many details about the first folding device from Vivo.
With this announcement, the folding smartphone space is now becoming more crowded as more OEMs are now offering foldable smartphones or started working on their version of a foldable smartphone. The device is directly competing with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Oppo folding phone. Samsung is currently the leader in the folding smartphone space and is offering two folding form factors.
The device has a similar style folding form factor as we have seen previously with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 as there is a smartphone size outer display and a tablet size inner display.
Vivo X Fold Specification:
Vivo X Fold comes with a Samsung-made 6.53-inch FHD+ cover display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 1080*2520 pixels ratio. The foldable display is a Samsung-made 8.03-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The folding display has a 2K+ resolution, a 4:3.55 aspect ratio, and is protected by the UTG (ultra-thin glass). The company claims that the folding display is certified for 300,000 folds which translates to roughly 80 folds a day for ten years.
It is a flagship device and it comes with a flagship-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset with Adreno 730 GPU. There are two storage variant options available. Users can choose between 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage or 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.
The folding device from Vivo is equipped with a quad-camera setup. There is a 50 MP main camera with OIS (Optical image stabilization) with f/1.75 aperture, a 48 MP ultra-wide camera, a 12 MP portrait sensor, and an 8 MP periscope sensor which also has optical image stabilization. The cover display has a 16 MP selfie camera with f/2.45 aperture placed in a center punch-hole cutout. There is also a selfie camera on the foldable display for video calls placed in a punch-hole cutout.
The device features a 4600 mAh dual battery cell that supports 66W wired fast charging and there is an 80W fast charger included in the box. Vivo X Fold comes with OriginOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box and also includes 5G support, Bluetooth v5.2, Wi-Fi 6, 4G LTE, NFC, and USB Type-C for charging and data transfer.
