Standing on it’s word, WhatsApp has finally added support for Android to iOS chat migration today, rolling out to everyone gradually.
This has been in beta testing since early this year. And a vice versa of this – iOS to Android chat migration – has been available since last year. Though WhatsApp enabled this support, it listed a bunch of limitations for doing so.
WhatsApp Chat Migration From Android to iOS
With WhatsApp becoming a daily driver for many, people tend to have their chats moved to different devices they use regularly. And migration was a hassle since WhatsApp didn’t support chat exporting between different devices.
But, it’s changing finally. Hearing to the community’s plea, WhatsApp announced chat migration from iOS to select Android devices last year. And now, it’s officially enabling support for Android to iOS chat migration.
As announced by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp users switching from Android to an iPhone can export their WhatsApp chat data – like the conversations, account information, profile photo, chat history, media, and settings easily from now on.
Although, there are few catches for this. Users who are trying to migrate chats from Android to iPhone should have the Move to iOS app installed on the receiving iPhone (which should be a factory reset one). Plus, both the devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi.
Further, the Android device from where the chats are being exported should be running on Android 5.0 Lollipop or above, while the iPhone on iOS 15.5 or later. At last, the WhatsApp app on Android devices should be on v188.8.131.52, and for iPhones it’s v184.108.40.206 or above.
WhatsApp has listed a detailed guide on how to do this, for your reference.
