WhatsApp Users May Soon be Able to Upload Voice Status

Researchers at WaBetaInfo spotted that WhatsApp is testing support for a rich media preview of URLs shared through on statuses.

So far, any URLs shared through WhatsApp status don’t show any details other than the raw URL string. But a rich media preview – showing an image of the target website, the title, and a meta description – will help viewers make an informed decision before proceeding to access the URL.

Knowing More About a WhatsApp URL

WhatsApp, in the last couple of months, has rolled out some useful features to make our experience better. Some of them include the increased size of groups, file sharing limit, and emojis’ reactions to messages.

And some like Communities, filter chats, etc are still in the making. Adding to these is the rich media preview of URLs in WhatsApp statuses, as seen by the WaBetaInfo. The screenshots shared reveal the support for a rich media preview of URLs in the WhatsApp iOS client.

Rich Media Preview of URLs WhatsApp Status – Old vs New

Although, it’s not available in the iOS beta version to try, may soon come. This is a useful addition though, as it helps users make informed decisions before proceeding with the URL.

To date, any URLs shared on the WhatsApp status of iOS clients will only show the raw URL string. But a rich media preview showing quick details like the image of the target website, the title, and a meta description alongside the URL should be helpful for the users to know it better before clicking on it.
