WhatsApp to soon allow users to hide their online status

WhatsApp

WhatsApp has launched a number of new features in the past couple of months and now the app is preparing to launch another new and exciting feature. Recently, the app introduced Android to iOS chat transfer for all users and now there is another feature coming very soon for the users.

WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users hide their online status from their contacts. The feature was initially reported in the WhatsApp beta version of iOS and now WABetaInfo finds out that this feature is available on the Android beta channel. But this feature is not available in the latest beta release of the app which is v2.22.16.12 so users who are part of the beta program cannot use this feature as of now. WABetaInfo also has some screenshots of the upcoming feature and how it works as shown below.

You can see the screenshot below.

As seen in the screenshot, the online status visibility feature will appear in the last seen privacy setting. Users will get the two options that are “Everyone” and “Same as last seen”. If you choose Everyone as an option for this feature then everyone will be able to see your online status and they know when you are online. But if you choose Same as last seen then the app will automatically pick the setting of your last seen visibility feature.

The same as the last seen option will limit users’ online status to their contacts apart from those users whom they have blocked from seeing their last seen status. In the last seen visibility there is an option called Nobody, if users choose that they will block everyone from seeing their last seen and online status.

This is an upcoming feature and is in development. It is not available in the beta version of both iOS and Android apps but soon it will be available for testing purposes. The official release date of this feature for all users globally is not known yet.

Stay tuned as we will keep our users updated with the latest and new features of WhatsApp and other social media apps.
