Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, on September 7. The company has revealed the device’s design, offering an early look at what could be its most advanced foldable flagship yet.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold adopts a compact book-style folding design with a relatively smaller cover display and a wider aspect ratio. The overall approach is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which shows that compact foldables with wider displays could become a major trend going forward.
In a teaser video, Xiaomi showcased the phone’s slim profile and distinctive design. Unlike the sharp edges seen on the Galaxy Z Fold8, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features rounded corners for a smoother and more refined appearance. The device also introduces a new “dragon bone” hinge and has been shown in an eye-catching deep red colour.
The phone features a 5.38-inch cover display and a larger 7.58-inch main display when unfolded. At the back, it houses a slim horizontal camera bar containing three camera sensors, an LED flash, and Leica branding.
One of the biggest highlights of the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be the new Xiaomi Xring O3 processor. The 3nm deca-core chipset is expected to offer impressive performance, with the foldable reportedly featuring up to 16GB of RAM. It will also be the first smartphone to use Chinese chipmaker CXMT’s new LPDDR6 memory.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to ship with HyperOS 4 based on Android 17. Other rumoured specifications include an IP68 rating, a massive 6,000mAh battery, 67W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging.
