YouTube on Wednesday revealed that it’s adding over 4,000 free TV shows and movies to it’s library, for free!
This is available to all the users in the US, who can watch the new titles with ads in between. Well, most of the content is available in FHD resolution and 5.1 surround sound audio. YouTube made this step to compete with the local OTA services.
Thousands of Free Movies on YouTube
With the growing competition in the video streaming industry, every related platform is trying it’s best to lure as many as viewers possible. And YouTube is no exception. The largest video platform has announced adding over 4,000 TV shows and movies to it’s free library, in the US region.
Starting today, users in the US can view titles like Hell’s Kitchen, Heartland, Unsolved Mysteries, etc for free on YouTube. Also, movies like Gone in Sixty Seconds, Runaway Bride, and Legally Blonde are available too. The platform said most of the newly added content is available in 5.1 surround sound audio and up to 1080p resolution.
Earlier, YouTube tried competing directly with the popular OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Disney by producing it’s own Originals. But it eventually turned the focus onto Black Voices and YouTube Kids Funds in 2020, resulting in dropping from the competition.
And now, with the addition of free content, it aims to give some hard time to local OTA services like the Peacock TV, Roku Channel, and Tubi. Besides this, the platform also said revamped the navigation, menu, and banner art to be more immersive and appealing. Users can access up to 100 new titles each week on web browsers, mobile devices, and YouTube TV apps.
