Apple undeniably follows strict guidelines to ensure the safety of its operating system. There are several apps that they have not made available in the App Store because they could make their OS vulnerable to security threats. However, as an Apple user if you still wish to download third-party apps on your iPhone without jailbreaking it then downloading AltStore will let you use third-party apps that are not supported by Apple. Follow the step-by-step instructions in this article to install AltStore on iPhone and iPad.
Steps to Install AltStore on iPhone and iPad:
Since AltStore is not available for download on the App Store, you would require Mac or Windows to install the application on your device. The steps must be followed accurately to ensure proper installation of AltStore. If you are using a Windows system then you must install iTunes and the iCloud desktop client and if you are a Mac user then you must have iCloud configured on the system. Once these things are in place, you can go ahead with the steps below to install AltStore on iPhone and iPad.
Open your choice of web browser and open AltStore
From the options displayed, download AltServer for the OS that you are using – macOS or Windows (beta)
Next, extract the downloaded file and run the installation process. Users who forgot to install iCloud on their system will be prompted to download it. Click to download it.
Connect your iPad or iPhone in which you want to download or use third-party apps, to your Mac or Windows with a USB cable.
If you are using Mac then open Finder and if Windows then open iTunes.
Next click on the device icon and the system will display the summary page
Check if the “Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi” is enabled – you can scroll down to look for this option
Click on the Altserver icon and select Install AltStore from the options available in the dropdown menu. The Altserver icon will be located on the top-right hand corner of the menu bar, for Mac users. Windows users will find Altserver running in the system tray.
Next, select the iPad or iPhone that is connected to the system with the USB cable.
You will be asked to provide your Apple ID. Put in your login details and sign in to your account.
Once you have put in your credentials you will be prompted to the Install button. Click on it to begin the installation.
AltStore will be installed on your iPad or iPhone in a few seconds.
You need to enable trust the developer which can be done from Settings of your iPad or iPhone – go to General > Profiles & Device Management > Enterprise App – enable trust and then tap again to confirm your action
Once you have enabled this, you can open AltStore
Now that you have AltStore on your iPhone or iPad you can freely sideload your choice of apps on your device. These are easy-to-follow steps and if done correctly you will have installed AltStore on your device in no time.
Although you don’t have to pay anything to install AltStore, its free usage is valid only for 7 days. If you wish to continue using it you need to pay a yearly fee of $99 for an Apple developer account.
However, if you are not interested in paying anything for the app then you just need to keep installing it again and again after every seven days to continue using it for free. The apps that you sideload will also expire along with the AltStore after seven days.
If you don’t want this to happen, then connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer which has the AltServer and then:
- Go to the AltStore app > My Apps > tap on Refresh All
This will keep your apps running. However, you must keep repeating your action every 7 days.
Follow the above instructions to install AltStore on your iPad or iPhone. Remember to refresh the apps before the seven days come to an end to continue using AltStore and the sideloaded apps without any hindrance.
