OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T owners running Android Nougat can now install Xposed Framework by following the step by step guide detailed in this tutorial.
After a year of being in development, Xposed Framework for Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 7.1 Nougat is finally here. It takes a lot of work to get this popular modification working on new versions of Android as there are typically a lot of changes that go into them. There was a partial release by a different developer announced before, but it wasn’t the same version of Xposed Framework that most were looking for.
Thankfully rovo89 has released his finished product and it can be installed on the OnePlus 5 right now. Before you install Xposed Framework on the OnePlus 5 though, you need to have some things setup ahead of time.
Firstly, you need to install TWRP on the OnePlus 5 so that you can then follow the guide on how to root the OnePlus 5. It doesn’t matter if you go for Magisk or SuperSU in this case, since you just need root access for the Xposed Framework application to work. I would also recommend you create a Nandroid backup of the OnePlus 5 before installing this as well.
Not all Xposed Modules work on Nougat or the OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T, so be sure you create a new Nandroid backup before installing a new Xposed Module too.
OnePlus 5 Install Xposed Framework
- Download the Xposed Framework APK
- Download the 64-bit Xposed Framework Installer for your version of Android
- Download the Latest Xposed Uninstaller for ARM 64-bit
- Move/copy those three files to the OnePlus 5
- Manually sideload the Xposed Framework APK
- Boot the OnePlus 5 into Recovery Mode
- Tap on the Install button
- Browse to and tap on the Xposed Framework installer ZIP file
- Swipe the white arrows to the right to confirm the installation
- Wait for Xposed to be installed
- Tap the Reboot System button when prompted
- Wait for the OnePlus 5 to reboot back into OxygenOS
If you’ve installed anything on the OnePlus 5 via TWRP, then this whole process will feel right at home for you. The only confusing part of this is knowing which files to install since there are a lot to choose from. For instance, Xposed Framework for Nougat comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and I can tell you that you need the 32-bit installer, not everyone knows this. You will also need to make sure that you download the Xposed Framework for the OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T that matches the version of Android you’re currently running. I’m on Android 7.1.1 right now so I downloaded that version, but your device may be different. It doesn’t matter if you’re running OxygenOS or not, just make sure you grab the 7.0 installer if you’re on 7.0, or grab the 7.1 installer if you’re on 7.1. I also recommend you go ahead and grab the latest 64-bit uninstaller ZIP file as well.
With those three files downloaded, you can move or copy them right over to the internal storage of the OnePlus 5. Manually sideload the Xposed Framework APK file so that we have a companion application to use (although you don’t need to open it right now), and then boot the OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T into Recovery Mode (which again needs to be TWRP). Again, if you haven’t done so already, this is when I would recommend you create your Nandroid backup so you have something to restore from just in case.
Once you are at the TWRP main menu, tap on the Install button at the top left and then browse to where you have the Xposed installer ZIP file. Tap on the installer ZIP file and then swipe the white arrows to the right to confirm the installation. The process should only take a few seconds and then you can tap on the Reboot System button when it appears. This first boot cycle will take longer than normal (as shown in the video above), but if you installed the right files then it should boot right up into Android.
From here, you can launch the Xposed Framework companion application to make sure it installed properly, and then install your favorite Xposed Modules.
