OnePlus might launch it’s folding smartphone, possibly named the OnePlus Open, next month. The trend of folding smartphones has gained popularity, with several OEMs joining in to release their own folding devices. OnePlus, a prominent OEM, is also preparing to enter this market.
OnePlus officially teased it’s folding device earlier this year, hinting at a release in the third quarter. Despite numerous speculations about it’s features, the launch was initially expected in August but faced a delay. OnePlus decided to change it’s display supplier, shifting from BOE to Samsung for the folding smartphone’s display. This change is likely due to Samsung’s position as a leading global manufacturer of folding smartphones, having launched it’s fifth generation of folding devices this year.
It is important to note that “OnePlus Open” may not be the final name for the device. OnePlus hinted at the device’s name cryptically in a message posted on X(formerly Twitter). However, despite the delay, it is now anticipated that the OnePlus Open will launch in October. Noted tipster Max Jambor has indicated that the first OnePlus folding device will debut on October 19, although the company has not officially confirmed this date.
Regarding the device’s specifications, OnePlus has not provided official details but numerous leaks have emerged since it’s initial announcement. Some leaks suggest that the device will feature a book-like design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the Google Pixel Fold. It is expected to have a primary display measuring around 8 inches when unfolded, as well as a cover display of approximately 6.3 inches. Both displays are expected to support a fast refresh rate, in line with current industry standards for folding phones.
Under the hood, the device is rumored to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 4800 mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging, up to 16GB of RAM and storage options of up to 256GB or 512GB. The rear side is expected to house a big circular camera module containing a triple camera setup with a 48MP primary shooter, a 48MP ultra-wide lens and a 64MP telephoto lens, along with a LiDAR sensor.
It is worth noting that most of these specifications are based on rumors and no official confirmation has been provided by the company. We will continue to provide coverage and updates on the device once it becomes official.
