Oppo has always had one of the fastest chargers in the smartphone industry. And now they have upped their game with a new 125W charger that can charge a phone with a 4000mAh battery in just 20 minutes. This would make this charger, the fastest and the most advanced in the smartphone industry. The charger is also said to be universally usable across most charging systems like QC and Power Delivery, besides Oppo’s own VOOC system.

A full charge in 20 minutes also means that the ‘Oppo 125W flash charger’ will be able to take your phone from 0% to 41% in just 5 minutes! That could come really handy all those times you realize your phone is dead just before you’re about to head out.
Oppo famously developed the technology behind the Dash Charger that the OnePlus phones use. Since then, the Chinese company has worked hard to improve and create much faster charging systems for its own phones. Oppo’s current fastest charging technology can already charge a 4000mAh battery in 30 minutes.
The Technology
So what exactly is it about the 125W flash charger that makes it so fast. Oppo claims that the charger is equipped with advanced encryption algorithm and strict temperature control regulators. In the demo video showcased by the company, they show a 125W (20V, 6.25A) charger charge a phone with a 4000 mAh battery in 20 minutes.
Oppo’s current champion, the 65W VOOC charger can charge the fully charger the current flagship Oppo Reno Ace in 31 minutes, making it the fastest charging phone in the world. Compared to the 65W charger, the 125W flash charger has increased the number of temperature sensors up to 14. These help monitor and regulate the temperature of phone while charging, keeping it under 40℃.
The demo video also shows that the new phone that will support this technology will feature dual 6C cells with multiple tabs, a highly integrated MCU and charge pumps. Oppo has also announced that the charger will work on all VOOC and SuperVOOC compatible phones as well as laptops with 65W USB Power Delivery (PD) or 125W Programmable Power Supply (PPS).
Release
Although Oppo has announced the world’s fastest charging system, we will have to wait a while until we get a phone that actually ships with the technology. Oppo has a habit of announcing technologies like this before the release of the actual phone. So we can expect to hear more about this in the final half of 2020.
Other Announcements
Oppo also announced three different products along with the 125W flash charger. These include the concept 65W AirVOOC wireless charger, the 50W mini SuperVOOC charger and the 100W mini flash charger. The concept 65W AirVOOC wireless flash charger was the most interesting reveal. It features a sculpted glass with moldless rapid prototyping. Also, the bottom of the charger comes with a semiconductor cooler rather than just a fan. This ensures that the phone does not get hot after it is done charging.
