Leaked OnePlus 14 Display Specs Hint at Unexpected Compromise

OnePlus 14

OnePlus appears to be all set to make a notable change in its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 14, by opting for a flat display design. This will be a major change in display design, moving away from the curved screens used in previous versions like the OnePlus 13. However, there is a potential setback in the display specification, which might disappoint some of you.

Leaked OnePlus 14 Display Specs Hint at Unexpected Compromise

According to the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 14 will sport a 6.78-inch flat LTPO display with a resolution of 1.5 K. This marks a noticeable downgrade from the OnePlus 13, which featured a sharper 2K resolution screen. While the shift may be seen as a step back in terms of raw display sharpness, OnePlus seems to be focusing on efficiency and design philosophy with this new iteration.

Additionally, the OnePlus 14 will feature a large R-angle design, likely referring to more refined, rounded corners that enhance the visual appeal and in-hand feel. Another interesting change is the adoption of a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, bringing it in line with the screen proportions seen in Apple’s iPhones.

Moreover, one of the exciting features of the OnePlus 14 is its supposed inclusion of LIPO (Low-Injection Pressure Overmolding) technology in the display. This innovation tries to lower the bezels around the screen, making that provide a more immersive watching experience. LIPO is also expected to allow for a slimmer and more streamlined device design and contribute to a sleeker, more ergonomic design and a better form and function. Currently, Xiaomi 15, iPhone 16 series, and Oppo Find X8S smartphone features the LIPO technology.

Powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite 2

Apart from the display, the OnePlus 14 is said to be driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. Battery life is, of course, one of the strongest points of this smartphone. OnePlus 14 is rumoured to feature a massive 7500mAh battery capacity, supporting 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless Charging.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset will have the model number SM88550 and will be based on TSMC’s 3nm N30 node. It will have a 2+6 core setup wherein the former 2 cores will be prime cores and the rest will be performance cores. The configuration is exactly similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, the new chipset will be based on ARM’s V9 architecture. The tipster adds that the Soc will have support for SME1 and SVE2,2, which hints towards the new ARM architecture.

The chipset will feature a 2nd-gen Oryon CPU and an Adreno 840 GPU for gaming and heavy graphics work. As a result, it could hit an AnTuTu score of up to 3.8 million—about 30% higher than the current Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Some other configuration of the device includes a Hasselblad-powered 50MP triple camera setup with periscope shooter, ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, large X-axis linear motor and IP68 & IP69 rating.

Overall, despite the downgrade in display resolution, the overall direction for the OnePlus 14 seems to center on simplicity, lightweight design, and user comfort. OnePlus seems to be shifting its focus away from simply chasing specs and instead refining the overall smartphone experience. A flat display, lighter body, and more accessible screen dimensions might appeal to a broader audience who prefer functionality and ease of use over technical max-outs.
