To power the next-gen budget and entry-level premium smartphones, MediaTek today announced the successor of the Dimensity 920 chip – the Dimensity 1080.

Though Qualcomm is reigning in most of the flagship smartphones with it’s high-end Snapdragon chips, MediaTek is the leader of the budget and entry-level premium smartphones. It’s Helio and Dimensity chips are handling most of the mid-range segment smartphones, offering great specifications for the buck.

Now, in an effort to empower the next generation of entry-level premium phones, MediaTek brought in the successor of the Dimensity 920 chip, called Dimensity 1080. It comes with two ARM Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz, mostly similar to the Dimensity 920.

With the same Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, the Dimensity 1080 is made on the 6nm process and another hardware-accelerated HDR video at up to 4K resolution and supports a 120Hz screen refresh rate. Aside from this, it also supports cameras upto 200MP – which is growing in demand for premium smartphones and becoming a must-feature in 2023.

Aside from this, the Dimensity 1080 supports the latest connectivity like Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 and comes with the same HyperEngine 3.0 and AI Processing Unit (APU) of it’s predecessor.

As the Dimensity 920 featured in Xiaomi Mi 11i, Realme 9 Pro Plus, and the Realme Narzo 50 Pro, we can see the new chip powering the next editions of the above smartphones coming later this year.
