I wanted to list out all of the tips and strategies for Spider-Man Unlimited that I was aware of so that you can play through the entire game without needing to spend any real money.

Spider-Man Unlimited is a game that I have been sinking a lot of time into lately. With it consuming so much of my free time, I just had to type up a guide for it. This is a free runner style freemium game that has been released on both Android as well as iOS. I generally do not like the pay-to-win aspects of most freemium games but Spider-Man Unlimited definitely has a layer of skill involved that is typically not present in pay-to-win games.

You could pump $100 into it and be worse at the game than someone who hadn’t spent a dime. This is something I enjoy and the more you play the better you see yourself getting.

Since I go into these freemium type games with the mindset of not spending any money, it’s actually added another layer of depth to the game for me. Yes, you can pay for continues and you can pay for random chances at various types of Spider-Man. However, it’s more of a ‘pay for convenience’ type of game, than a pay-to-win game. Everything that can be purchased for real money in the game can also be purchased with in-game currency. It may take a long time to farm up that in-game currency, but that’s not a problem for me. I enjoy the game as a way to kill a few minutes of time throughout the day. There is a huge segment of gamers that do not like this idea and that is fine. Personally, I feel that as long as it the game is balanced for people who do not spend money into the game, then it’s okay with me.

Don’t get me wrong, Spider-Man Unlimited can be brutally difficult if you are not at the top of your game. The way vials, power-ups and enemies are placed, it can sometimes make it difficult to see what is ahead of you. This is something that I really disliked when I first started playing the game. It felt very cheap to me and when it made me angry, I would use ISO-8 to continue. It made me feel like I was able to get my revenge at the game after a death seemed unfair. However, as I played more and more of the game, I realized that this is just how the game works. For better or worse, I just had to understand that this game is made to make you die.

Yet again, I think this is why I seem to be drawn to this game during my spare time. I like that added difficulty that is being put into the game. If it was completely unpredictable then I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much. As I put more time into the game, I started to notice patterns of how the levels were setup. A certain area in the middle of a run that I kept dying over and over became familiar the more I died from it. This enabled me to anticipate what I should do the next time I saw that same pattern during a level. This might happen less as you advance further into the game but as of right now I am enjoying it the balance that is presented.

Follow the Vials

It can sometimes be hard to look too far ahead while you’re playing the game. There will be a plethora of obstacles to sidestep, bash and jump over in every single mode available. While playing, you’ll notice a trail of vials scattered throughout the game. Most of the time these trail of vials will guide you to the safe path. This is not always the case though. You should always evaluate where you want to go from where you are. However, if you come across a spot where you see three doors and you know 2 of them will close on you as you approach, it’s generally best to follow the trail of vials because they will lead you to safety more often than not. This is a pattern that you learn to recognize and it starts to become second nature.

Slide Attack

I have seen this suggest on various websites and so far it seems to be a good idea. If you are coming up to an enemy and they can be dispatched with a slide attack, get into the habit of sliding. If you go back and forth between sliding and punching for standard enemies, then it can delay your decision when things start to get too fast. If you get in the habit of doing a slide attack then there will be no delay when you come across that type of enemy. The developers could take advantage of us getting into this habit in a future update, but for now it is a good idea.

No Continues

You are going to need every single ISO-8 that you can get your hands on. Unless spending one on a continue will guarantee that you reach a certain milestone during an event or a run, it is not a good idea to use these on continues. I know it can be tempting to spend them this way. To think that if you could just play that one level a little longer then you would get to a satisfying end. More often than not though, it is simply not worth it. Learn to admit defeat and start fresh with a new life. As soon as I started thinking this way, thinking that deaths can be cheap and to just start over, the game became so much more enjoyable for me.

Level Power-Ups

If you tap the Menu button at the top right you’ll see a Shop button that will show you all the different things you can buy. At first I thought the power-ups listed here were like consumables, that it would give you the option to buy Web Gloves for 5,000 Vials and use them at any time during the game. Little did I know that these power-ups can be leveled up and that they will prolong the duration of the power-ups you pick up during the game. Until this point I hadn’t purchased any of them and I thought the only thing to farm was ISO-8. Being a fan of MMOs, and farming for items in general, this added another level of enjoyment for me. Some people don’t like to farm in video games. They see it as a way to draw out the game, but I am a huge fan of RPGs and I love that satisfaction of finally obtaining the item I’ve been striving for. You should always play the games the way you enjoy to play them. If this turns you off to the game then this is probably not the game for you.

Survive, Survive, Survive

It is very easy to get wrapped up in the idea that you need to concentrate on killing enemies, collecting Vials and getting as close as possible to that upcoming obstacle so you can rack up those combos. It is generally a better idea to survive than it is to go out of your way to get those things. Even if you’re trying to get the highest combo score or the most number of Vials. It is better to survive than to overextend yourself and increase the chance of you losing the life. Most of the time you’ll get a higher combo or more Vials simply by sticking to the safe path when things start to get hairy.

Save ISO-8

Do not waste those valuable ISO-8s on something like continues or consumables. There are always exceptions to the rule, but more often than not(especially if you don’t want to pump money into the game) you will want to save those for buying or ranking your Spider-Man. You can do one of two different things. You could play the luck game and try to buy the premium Spider-Men for 25 ISO-8s each. This is what you should do until you get all the rare Spider-Men you want/need. Once you settle on a few that suit(geddit?) your play style, I recommend saving up so you can rank him up. Yes, it can take a long time to save up to 50/200/etc, but unless you’re incredibly lucky, you will be pulling a lot of duplicates and you could end up wasting more than you would have if you had simply purchased the rank.

Rank Up Anytime

You should be aware that you can rank up your Spider-Man at any time. You do not have to wait until you reach the level cap before you rank him up. If you prefer to play the luck game and go for the random portals, then use your duplicates to rank your Spider-Man up each time you pull a double. This is helpful so that you won’t run out of empty slots, but it’s also helpful because you don’t end up wasting a duplicate on something else when you could have used it to level up one of your Spider-Men. This is something I wish I had learned sooner because it really would have saved me a Spider-Man or two when I first started.

Score Attack

If your goal in Spider-Man Unlimited is to get the highest score possible then you will want to go through as much story mode as possible. Each ‘issue’ that you complete will unlock another slot. Not the character slots, but the multiplier slots. You’ll see these on the right of the screen before you start a game. Each Spider-Man that you put here will gain some XP but it will also increase your score multiplier. You can go two routes here. You can try to rack up as many combos as possible or you could simply try to survive the longest. Someone like Battle-Damaged Spider-Man is probably best for getting the highest number of combos, but only if you are semi-decent at getting those near misses. You could also go with the Spider-Armor if you aren’t good at racking up those near misses or maybe even Cosmic Spider-Man.

Combo Attack

As I just said, the best Spider-Man to pick if you want to get the highest combo score is probably going to be Battle-Damaged Spider-Man. Although, if you are not good at getting those near misses then you might want to go with someone like one of the Ben Reilly Spider-Men. Scarlet Spider would be a good choice here too if it fits your preferred play style more. I wouldn’t use this use this type for the Unlimited Mode but if there is an event or daily goal going on that requires you to get the highest number of combos then one of these types of Spider-Men are best.

Farm Vials

This is something I have been doing for the past few days and like I said earlier, I enjoy farming in a video game. I’m not 100% sure exactly which Spider-Man is best here but I have been using the Ends of the Earth Spider-Man for my Vial farming. I could see something like the Scarlet Spider, which gives you 30% more Vials from defeating enemies, being good here too. It would just depend on your preferred play style. I find that an overall 10% bonus to my total Vials is the best choice here. It doesn’t hurt that I think the Ends of the Earth Spider-Man suit looks the best too. You can get Vials from events, daily rewards, daily goals and by collecting them in the middle of a level. You can also ‘brag’ to friends in your friends list and get 500 Vials for each person you brag to. This is limited per day but it should net you about 2,500 extra Vials every day from doing this. Just go through the Leaderboard and add some random people if you don’t know anyone that plays the game.

Farm ISO-8

There are only a few ways you can farm ISO-8 in Spider-Man Unlimited. The first is with regular story missions but you can also complete your daily goals. Be sure to tap the Menu button at the top right of the screen and then open up the Goals section every day. This will reset once per day and it gives you the chance to win 3 ISO-8s with the gold medal. You can also get prizes in the Daily Rewards section. Sometimes this is a specific Spider-Man suit, sometimes this is a random portal and sometimes this can be upwards of 50 ISO-8s. To qualify you just need to play the Unlimited Mode and get the highest score you can get. The last place to farm ISO-8 is in the Events section. Different events have different goals and they last a different amount of time. Be sure to keep checking these goals so you that know what you can win that day.

If I think of anything else I will be sure to update this post. If you know of a tip, trick or strategy that is not listed above then please leave a comment to add to this collection. Finally, if anyone has a question about the game then please use the comments section below to ask and I will be happy to help.
