To increase engagement and revenue, Spotify is reportedly working to add music videos to it’s platform. A timeline of when this support would be added is unknown, but Bloomberg says that Spotify is in talks with potential partners.
The music platform already has some video features, but they aren’t full-length. Thus, a music video of full length will keep it on par with Apple Music, which has had this support for years. Also, it refreshed the new TikTok-like home feed with videos, thus better.
Music Video Streaming on Spotify
Though a market leader, Spotify is still subject to economic turmoil and competition, which forced the company to lay off a significant portion of it’s staff earlier this year. This included 200 members from the Podcast team, which put a dent in one of it’s revenue streams.
Well, even if it does, the company is reportedly working on another way to rake in revenue and engagement. As per Bloomberg, Spotify is in talks with potential partners to add music videos to it’s platform, putting itself on par with rivals like Apple Music. Also, this feature would draw people relying on YouTube for music videos to Spotify.
As for when this feature will be available, it should help Spotify be more enjoyable. The platform already has 30-second storytelling clips from podcasts and 10-second GIFs that loop while you listen to a song. These aside, Spotify added a vertically swipe-able feed like TikTok, although it’s limited to discovering new music. This feed may now be refreshed with video content, if Spotify can bring music videos to it’s platform.
