Sony Unveils LYT-910: Its First LOFIC Camera Sensor Set to Debut on Vivo X500 Pro Max

Sony has officially introduced its first camera sensor based on LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology, marking a major step forward in smartphone photography. The newly announced Sony LYT-910 is a 50MP flagship sensor designed to deliver improved dynamic range, better HDR performance, and enhanced image quality in challenging lighting conditions.

The sensor is expected to make its first appearance on the upcoming Vivo X500 Pro Max, where it will likely serve as the primary camera sensor. Earlier reports from reliable leaker Digital Chat Station suggested that future flagship devices from Vivo and Oppo could adopt Sony’s new LOFIC-based sensor technology, bringing significant upgrades to their camera capabilities.

LOFIC technology focuses on preventing overexposure by handling extremely bright areas more effectively. Sony’s demonstration video highlights the advantage of the LYT-910 compared with traditional sensors, showing improved detail retention in scenes with strong contrast between highlights and shadows.

The LYT-910 features a large 1/1.28-inch sensor size and is positioned as a successor to the LYT-828 sensor used in previous flagship smartphones. Sony claims the sensor can achieve up to 100 dB HDR dynamic range from a single exposure, reducing the need for multi-frame HDR processing. This also helps minimize motion blur when capturing moving subjects.

The new sensor supports Triple Conversion Gain HDR (TCG-HDR), along with more than 30 percent improved noise reduction compared with conventional sensors. Sony has also focused on efficiency, with lower power consumption while maintaining flagship-level performance.

For photography enthusiasts, the LYT-910 supports high-speed shooting capabilities, including up to 120 fps burst capture at 12.5MP resolution and up to 30 fps shooting at full 50MP resolution. For video recording, it can deliver full HDR quality at up to 60 fps with 12.5MP output and support 4K video recording.
