A new report reveals that Apple again leads the Premium smartphone market with a whopping 62% market share in the first quarter of 2022. The company’s sales improved compared to last year when it had a 57 percent market share in the premium smartphone category.
Research firm counterpoint published a report which states that Apple has had it’s best-ever first quarter since Q1 2017. It is very impressive considering that inflation had impacted the buying power of consumers and also the smartphone prices have gone up as compared to 2017.
The research firm also reported that premium smartphone sales surpassed the overalls smartphone sales for the eighth consecutive quarter. It indicates that consumers are willing to pay extra to get a decent handset for their daily use.
Among the premium smartphone, iPhone 13 is the best seller since it’s launch in October 2021 with a 23 percent market share. iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max capture the 13 percent and 9 percent market share since their launch in October 2021 despite having above the $1000 price tags in the premium smartphone category. Both these Pro models are having a two-thirds market share of the $1000 and above smartphone price segment. Apple normally sells premium smartphones that come with high-end features with great performance and cameras.

This year, Apple is following the same strategy with the iPhone 14 series by offering premium smartphones with high-end features, great performance, and cameras. This year the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a design change as seen in the early leaks. Apple will ditch the notch in both the Pro models this year and bring a hole punch and pill-shaped cutout for the front camera and sensors in the display.
The only other smartphone that comes in the top five in the premium smartphone category is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. It is a close competitor to the iPhone and both Apple and Samsung compete with each other in the flagship smartphone category. The Galaxy S22 Ultra also offers high-end features with great performance to Android users. Due to the US ban, Huawei’s market share is declining in the Premium smartphone category and Apple is taking on the space left by Huawei.
