Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the popular battle royale game that was banned in India last year, is now making a comeback in the country.
Last week, BGMI’s CEO thanked fans and the Indian ministry for letting them relaunch the game, which will be slightly tweaked to Indian needs now. As the game is available now for Android users, gamers complain of server-related issues, which should be resolved soon.
BGMI Relaunch in India
Nearly a year after being banned in India for security reasons, Battlegrounds Mobile India is back on The Play Store for download. The Indian government has earlier cited several security reasons concerning the game’s parent company – Krafton Inc since it’s a South Korean.
Seems these issues have been sorted out, as the game is available to play in India again. The game’s CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn last week thanked the Indian fans for their love and patience, while also saying that they’re deeply committed to the Indian gaming ecosystem.

While he didn’t mention any specific timeline for it’s relaunch, some users have started seeing this game being shown on the Google Play Store for download, while iOS users have to wait a bit longer. If you’re an Android user and don’t see BGMI on your Play Store yet, go to the official website for a direct APK download.
BGMI was launched after the ban of an even more popular game – PUBG Mobile in 2020, citing similar security reasons. At it’s peak, BGMI has raked in over 100 million users and is also the first battle royale-style game in history to broadcast it’s Esports event on television, attracting 24 million concurrent viewers and 200 million total viewers.
The company is now hopeful that it may set new standards in gaming with this relaunch – that comes with slight changes. As per reports, the Indian government has allowed the game to relaunch for a 3-month period – where it’ll closely monitor for any suspicious or objective content. After this, if deemed good, it may allow the game to continue as usual.
Though BGMI is now available on the Google Play Store, players complain that the game was unplayable due to server-related issues. While it’s likely to be fixed soon, we expect the developers to have made the necessary changes as asked by the Indian government, such as adding a time limit to the game for restricting addiction, and some tweaks to UI.
