A day after mass layoffs at Twitter, Elon Musk opened up on why he had to make that decision.

Musk Defends Mass Layoffs at Twitter

A job at Twitter would be a rollercoaster now since you won’t know how you’re valued there! Just a week after acquiring his favorite social media platform, Elon Musk made rapid changes to it’s internals, with some including changing homepage layouts, setting up a new content moderation council, and laying off over 50% of the staff!

Now, a day after cutting thousands of employees, Musk opened up on why he had to do that. On his Twitter account, the billionaire said he had no choice other than dumping some employees since Twitter is burning four million a day.

Thus, Musk ordered these mass layoffs, with about three months of severance pay – which he says is more than the legal requirement. Well, the company is already facing litigation in California regarding the mass layoffs for not giving adequate notice to the concerned employees.

This, aside from the weak reports from earlier quarters, needs the new leader to make some significant changes in the company’s working, with layoffs being one of them. This decision was soon defended by Twitter’s head of safety, Yoel Roth too, who said his content moderation team wasn’t as impacted as other departments, so there was no need to worry about Twitter’s integrity.

Both Musk and Roth assured that Twitter’s moderation rules remain unchanged and will be effective in countering the misinformation during upcoming US elections.
