Google is upholding it’s promise of tuning the Android better to suit large-screen devices, as it now showcased a new Play Store design for better viewing on tablets and ChromeOS.
The redesigned Play Store will have the app description, videos, and screenshots put together directly from the Apps and Games screen, while a new section for Kids has been added to the tabs. Also, Google defined tips on how app developers can make their apps better for large-screen devices.
Android for Large Screen Devices
With the rise of large-screen devices like foldable smartphones, tablets, and even Chromebooks, Google promised to tune it’s software, according to them for the best user experience. And as promised, the company has made Android 12L – aimed at foldable phones.
Also, it’s now tuning the apps running on Android OS to better suit large-screen devices. Through it’s Android developers’ blog, Google shared a new design of the Play Store app – which has all the required data elements on one screen, making it an easy approach for users.
Calling this a “content-forward approach,” the new design puts descriptions, screenshots, and videos of the app directly from the Apps and Games home screens and even added a dedicated Kids section at the bottom of the left sidebar, housed alongside the Games, Apps, Books, and Offers tabs.
Assuring developers that this new design won’t affect their app’s promotability in any way, the company suggested tips for app developers to make them better viewable on large-screen devices like Chromebooks.
It recommended developers take as many screenshots as possible in all the form factors, in 16:9 formats and dimensions of up to 1080-7690 pixels. They can include upto 8 screenshots in their app listings on the Play Store for better reach.
We may see more tips and suggestions of such pouring in before the official release of the Pixel Tablet – where Google will show the perfectly optimized Android for tablets.
