Microsoft Intune Missing Certificate Error

Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based management tool that can maintain a good balance between mobile device management and mobile application management. However, many users recently complained that after Android 12 came into the market, they faced many issues with the management system. One of the most common issues is Microsoft intune missing certificate error. In this error, apps such as Gmail and VPN are getting affected. Users report that the device with work profiles is constantly losing access to the certificates.

Though there is no confirmed cause behind this error, it is assumed that this error is occurring because Google removed the permission of apps to access hardware identifiers. So, there is no permanent fix for this issue, but we have listed the most probable troubleshooting methods to get rid of this problem.

Troubleshooting methods to fix Microsoft InTune Missing Certificate Error on Android 12

Enable browser access

Sometimes the error can occur due to no browser access, which is also required to cross valid the security certificates. That’s why, before trying any complex troubleshooting method, you should try to enable browser access to your device. Now, check if the issue is solved or not.

Manually install Certificates

Though your Android 12 should install all the important certificates by itself, you can try to install them manually to solve this issue by using Internet explorer/chrome. Below are the steps for that:

First, open Internet Explorer/chrome on your computer and go to your organization’s website

Now, you will see a padlock icon on the address bar on your screen. Click on that

Go to the view certificates option and click on that

You’ll now be able to see a new dialog box showing all the required information for the certificate.

Click on the Details tab and click on the copy to file option

Here, you have to select the DER encoded binary x.509 option and click on the Next button

Now, save the file with the file type extension “.cer”.

After that, send this file as an email to your Android smartphone

Open the email from your smartphone, and it will show you an option to install the certificates.

Give the certificate a name and then click on the okay button

The missing certificate will now be installed on your Android device.

Restart your smartphone and check whether the issue is solved or not.

Fix Certificate Issue with AnyConnect VPN

All you need to do is to clear the cache of the AnyConnect application on your device. Below are the steps for that:

Open the Settings app on your device

Go to applications and permission

Navigate to the app manager

Click on AnyConnect VPN

Now, click on Internal Storage and select the Clear Cache option from there

Your issue should be solved by now, but if it is not, move ahead with the article.

Fix Certificate Issue with Gmail

Here, you don’t need to clear the cache of the Gmail app, but you have to follow some other steps. Below are the steps for that.

Open your company portal app and click on the menu option

Remove company portal

Launch Google Play store to search for Intune Company Portal

You have to uninstall the application and reinstall it again on your device

Launch the application on your Android 12 smartphone and login into your portal

Open Gmail and check whether the problem is solved or not.

Remove Personal Identifiers to fix Microsoft InTune missing certificate error

You can try to remove the personal identifiers such as IMEI, MEID, or serial number from your Android 12 smartphone to solve the issue, as the Android 12 is not supporting the use of hardware identifiers for personally owned work profile devices anymore.

On the other hand, devices enrolled before the Android 12 update can still receive the new certificates as long as you have the hardware identifiers data in your intune profile. It is advised to check out the official documentation for this purpose.

Conclusion

This issue does not have a permanent solution yet, but the steps mentioned above are useful in 99% of cases. If you still have the issue, you can always contact the IT team of the organization for further assistance.
