How to install Android 14 Developer Preview 1?

This week, Google released the Android 14 developer preview 1 for Pixel devices. We already discussed a few of the new features included in the Android 14 developer preview in our article. Since this is a developer preview, it could have some bugs or issues since it is intended for developers to test and give feedback on the latest update. If you own a supported Google Pixel device, you can install the OS update. We will show you how to install the Android 14 Developer preview on your Pixel device in this article.

Supported Devices:

As of now, the OS update is only available for Google Pixel smartphones. This update, however, is not compatible with all Pixel smartphones. Google Pixel 5 series, Pixel 6 series, and Pixel 7 series are the only models that are eligible for the update. Additionally, Google Pixel 4a 5G is compatible with this update. 

Requirements to Install Android 14 Developer Preview:

To continue with the installation process, we need to complete some requirements before moving forward. The following requirements must be met:

Backup:

All data on your smartphone will be wiped during the installation process. Don’t forget to back up your smartphone’s important data.

USB Debugging:

Your Google Pixel smartphone must have USB debugging enabled and an unlocked bootloader.

USB drivers:

In order to complete the installation process, you must connect your smartphone to your PC/laptop. To maintain a reliable USB connection between your smartphone and your PC, you must have the required USB drivers of your smartphone on your PC.

Brower:

Since most of your work is done on your PC and online. In order to complete the installation process, you must use Google Chrome as your web browser. You should also use the latest version of Google Chrome.

Internet connection:

In order to flash the Android 14 Developer Preview on your smartphone, you need a stable and reliable internet connection. Installing will also take time depending on your Internet speed.

How to install Android 14 Developer Preview:

After fulfilling all requirements, it’s time to install the Android 14 Developer preview on our Google Pixel smartphone. The Android flashing tool was used for this installation. Here are the steps you need to follow:-

Step 1: Plug your smartphone into a PC/laptop via USB.

Step 2: Go to the Android flashing tool website using Google Chrome on your PC.

Step 3: Download and install all the necessary USB drivers.

Step 4: On the Android flashing tool website, click “Allow ADB access”.

Step 5: The next step is to select your device in the pop-up window. Choose your device from all the listed devices by clicking the down arrow where it says to select the device.

Step 6: For the first time, you must allow the connection on your smartphone if you are connecting your smartphone to your PC through this method. On your smartphone, tap “Allow” on the pop-up window.

Step 7: You will see all the available OS builds for your Pixel smartphone in the select build section. Choose the Android 14 Developer preview.

Step 8: You can change a few other options based on your needs. To view all the options, click on the pencil icon.

Step 9: Click the blue install build button at the bottom to begin.

Step 10: You will be asked to confirm installing the Developer preview in a pop-up window. To proceed, click the confirm button at the bottom of the window.

Step 11: At the license window, click “I Accept”.

Step 12: The installation process will begin and you will have to wait for it to complete. During the installation process, do not interact with your smartphone. Be patient as the process may take some time depending on your internet speed.

As soon as your PC screens show installation complete, go to your smartphone, as it will reboot on it’s own. Remove the smartphone from the PC, and let it reboot.

Rebooting for the first time takes a little longer than normal. Set your device as usual when you see the Android activation screen.

That’s all. Your Pixel smartphone now has the Android 14 Developer Preview 1. On the about phone page, you can check the Android version by clicking on the software information option.
