In it’s pursuit of cracking the account-sharing habit, Netflix said it’ll start charging users for this practice starting early next year.

The company is already testing a new plan in Latin America for those who want to share their account with someone else who isn’t living with them. It costs them $3-4 extra than what they’re paying now regularly.

New Netflix Account Sharing Policy

We all knew this would happen one day – that Netflix would surely crack down on the illegal account-sharing practice we do. And after testing it for a while in some Latin American countries, the company is ready to expand a new plan for official account sharing to everyone around the world.

Up until now, the original Netflix account holder is free to share his credentials with anyone, whereas others would form their own profiles to have personalized recommendations and saved watchlists.

Well, Netflix does allow that for a certain number of people who’re all living under one roof. But now, with the company drastically losing it’s earnings and subscribers, it finally vouched to end this illegal account-sharing practice.

The company introduced a special plan for such users – where they can share the account with others who are far off – for some extra money! Though this would change according to regions, the most would be a 30-40% change.

So you better mind asking your friends to share the costs or ask them to signup for their account. All the individual profiles in the ‘Who’s Watching’ section will be considered as sub-accounts, on which Netflix shares the new costs.

For those who want to migrate from a shared account to a new (self) account, the company has recently launched a Profile Transfer tool. Further, there’s even announced a low-priced ad tier for eradicating the account-sharing practice.
